    USAID/PROLoG Organizes 2nd Workshop on Court Administration for Georgian Judges and Court Managers

    On July 1st, USAID/PROLoG organized a remote workshop on Court Administration.  Managers of Tbilisi, Gori and Rustavi City courts participated as well as the Chair of Rustavi City Court.

    Principles of Courtroom Decorum Piloted at Tbilisi City Court

    USAID/PROLoG has facilitated the development of Principles of Courtroom Decorum by bringing together judges from the Tbilisi City and Tbilisi Appeal Courts and representatives of the Georgian Bar Association (GBA), members of the GBA’s Ethics Commission. The Principles set out guidelines for professional and respectful conduct in court proceedings. The idea came from one of PROLoG’s judicial exchange visits and follow-up meetings with Georgian judges.

    USAID/PROLoG Supports Professors Workshop at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Teaching University

    USAID/PROLoG issued a grant to the Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Teaching University (Sabauni) and established a new Human Rights Chair, who will work to enhance the teaching of human rights law at undergraduate and graduate levels at Batumi State and Samtskhe-Javakheti State Universities.

    On June 29, 2020 the Georgian Bar Association Justice and Judicial Reforms Committee met online with USAID/PROLoG Committee expert Mr. Charles Garcia to discuss the development of Committee work. 15 people, including the chairperson of the Justice and Judicial Reforms Committee, the Committee Work Coordinator and Committee members participated.

    TDI Conducts Online Discussion for High School Students

    On June 26, Tolerance and Diversity Institute (TDI), under the USAID/PROLoG-funded project “Images of Diversity: Promoting Tolerance and Non-Discrimination in Georgia,” held another online event, “Racism and Rights of Foreign Nationals in Georgia,” for high school students and teachers of Kutaisi public schools. Tamar Gurchiani, DCoP of USAID/ACCESS, and associate professor at Ilia State University, participated, with Eka Chitanava, TDI Director, moderating the discussion.

    On June 25 USAID/PROLoG organized an online workshop on court administration involving court administrative staff from the Colorado Bankruptcy Court, led by Clerk of the Court, Ken Gardner, and judicial assistants from the Tbilisi Court of Appeals and the Tbilisi City Court.

    Webinar on the Implementation of Legal Norms Regulating Sexual Harassment

    On June 16 an online coordination meeting on the implementation of legal norms regulating sexual harassment was organized with the support of USAID/PROLoG and the initiative of the Gender Equality Council of the Parliament of Georgia. Adam Schmidt, Director of Democracy, Governance and Social Development at USAID Georgia, Nino Tsilosani, Member of the Gender Equality Council, Nino Tsatsiashvili, Deputy Minister of the Internal Affairs, Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia, Lela Akiashvili, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Human Rights and Gender Equality Issues made opening remarks.

    USAID/PROLoG Supports Academic Conference on 2020 Parliamentary Elections in Georgia

    On June 15-17, Free University Tbilisi organized an online Academic Conference on “2020 Parliamentary Elections in Georgia: Challenges and Legal Means of Their Resolution”. Funded by a USAID/PROLoG grant, the conference consisted of three panels, which discussed proposed changes to the electoral system and possible effects of the state of emergency caused by the current pandemic

    GBA Launches Career Talks with Law Students from Leading Georgian Universities

    GBA Ethics Commission started the implementation of - Career Talks with the law students of leading universities in Georgia. The purpose of these talks is for members of the Ethics Commission to inform students about the lawyer's ethical obligations and the impact professional ethics has on their work. In Total 6 talks will be held.
