    USAID/PROLoG Supports Workshops at Regional Universities

    On 4th and 18th of September, within the framework of the Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Teaching University (SabaUni) project, USAID/PROLoG supported workshops at Batumi State and Samtskhe-Javakheti State Universities. The workshops introduced two courses (Anti-discrimination Law, Equality Rights Protection) developed by the Human Rights Chair. 20 participants attended presentations, which were followed by active discussions on the integration of both subjects in university curriculums.

    GTUC Protects the Rights of Workers Affected by COVID-19

    The COVID-19 pandemic still has strong impacts on the lives of many people, especially those working in the street markets and informal trade sector. Borjomi Station Market is an example of a space full of self-employed workers--an open clothing market, where employees rent spaces. These people are working in poor conditions, and the pandemic has made their working environment even harder.

    “Safe You” App For Women on Live Television

    On September 22, USAID-PROLoG grantee Sapari went on Mtavari TV morning show to publicly present and promote the “Safe You” mobile application that was funded by PROLoG’s Covid-19 rapid response grants program. Over a very short time period this summer, Sapari managed to translate, adapt and launch the Armenian-developed app, which helps women in cases of domestic violence. The app is hidden and double password protected, and allows women to send SOS messages with their geolocation to their trusted contacts, as well as he police, if needed. Another unique feature of the app is that it can record sounds, thus preserving crucial evidence for domestic violence incidents.

    Online Meeting with PDO on Case Management

    On September 14, 2020, USAID/PROLoG organized an online meeting with representatives of the Public Defender’s Office (PDO) and Maia Kopaleishvili, a Georgian expert, who was hired to develop a case management document for PDO’s Equality Department. The document will help improve management of anti-discrimination cases. It will include case management rules and procedures, the rules for communication with parties, protocols of oral interviews and oral hearings with parties and third parties, and recommendations on how to assess and process cases.

    On September 18, 2020 USAID/PROLoG organized an online training for the Public Defender’s Office (PDO) Equality Department on writing recommendations in discrimination cases. Tamas Kadar, Deputy Director and Head of Legal and Policy at the Equinet Europe, conducted the training.

    Live Discussion of Electronic Case Filing in Georgia

    On September 17 USAID/PROLoG organized a live online discussion of electronic case management in courts, specifically the electronic case filing system used at the Tbilisi City Court (TCC). The discussion was organized within the framework of PROLoG’s judicial exchange activities and involved representatives of TCC and the Georgian Bar Association (GBA).

    EMC lawyers met with population of Khulo Municipality

    On August 24 - 25, EMC with USAID/PROLoG support organized a mobile clinic for religious minorities in Khulo and Ghorjomi.  The goal of the visit was to provide free legal aid and identify problems faced by the community.

    USAID/PROLoG Supports Adoption of Standards for Judges’ Specialization in the Rights of the Child

    The High Council of Justice of Georgia (HCoJ), with USAID/PROLoG support, adopted Regulation on Specialization of Judges in the field of Rights of the Child. The need for the standards emerged when Article 5¹ of the Civil Procedure Code of Georgia came into force in September, 2019, requiring judges specialized in Rights of the Child in legal proceedings involving a child.
