Network of Centers for Civic Engagement works with Georgian Association of Mediators to Promote Mediation

12 February 2021 Network of Centers for Civic Engagement works with Georgian Association of Mediators to Promote Mediation

On February 10, 2021 the Network of Centers for Civic Engagement (NCCE), in cooperation with the Georgian Association of Mediators (MAG), trained representatives of NCCE regional offices from all 10 offices in Akhaltsikhe, Batumi, Gori, Kutaisi, Marneuli, Ozurgeti, Rustavi, Sagarejo, Telavi, and Zugdidi. The purpose of this training was to raise awareness among NCCE staff about mediation, so that they are able to guide persons interested in receiving such services and connect them with MAG and its accredited mediators.  Irakli Kandashvili, MAG Chairman and Elene Orjonikidze, Board Member, discussed the work of their Association, different types of mediation and successful examples of their work. The participants had questions about the role of NCCE in effective promotion of mediation throughout the country.

The Georgian Parliament has adopted the law on Mediation and it has been in force since January 2020, but recent research shows that much of the Georgian population lacks information about this initiative. Mediation offers a practical and economic alternative dispute resolution system and the project aims to increase public awareness and to promote and popularize mediation.
