GTUC Holds Live Consultation on Compensation During the Pandemic
01 February 2021
On January 29, Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC), under the USAID/PROLoG-funded Legal Aid for Protection of Workers Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic project, organized an online discussion on compensation issued by the Georgian state for those affected by the pandemic. GTUC lawyer Tamar Surmava and economic analyst Giorgi Chanturidze summarized the pandemic’s impact on employment: as elsewhere, many jobs were lost and a significant number of those who did not lose their jobs, were forced to work at a reduced salary or take unpaid leave. To help alleviate the impact, the two consultants talked about the assistance from the government--what are the requirements to receive compensation and how to check eligibility. They also answered live questions about the compensation procedures, options for appealing a denial of claim and other related issues.
