On October 23, Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC), under the USAID/PROLoG-funded project “Legal Aid for Protection of Workers Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic,” organized an online discussion on “Labor Safety during COVID-19.” Nika Kakashvili, representative of GTUC Labor Inspection Department, Irakli Mkheidze, GTUC lawyer, and Maia Mikaia, Head of Labor Inspection Unit from the Georgian Labor Inspection, participated, with Levan Gogitauri, PR specialist, moderating the discussion.
The participants talked about COVID-19 related regulations and recommendations; rules that both employers and employees must follow to ensure a safe and healthy working environment; and actions taken to inform people about these regulations. Maia Mikaia spoke about the Labour Conditions Inspecting Department, its objectives and functions, and steps taken against COVID-19. The participants answered live questions about safety standards; fines for violating recommendations; responsibilities for workplace safety; isolation and payment; working time; and other related issues.
