“Safe You” App For Women on Live Television

24 September 2020 “Safe You” App For Women on Live Television

On September 22, USAID-PROLoG grantee Sapari went on Mtavari TV morning show to publicly present and promote the “Safe You” mobile application that was funded by PROLoG’s Covid-19 rapid response grants program. Over a very short time period this summer, Sapari managed to translate, adapt and launch the Armenian-developed app, which helps women in cases of domestic violence. The app is hidden and double password protected, and allows women to send SOS messages with their geolocation to their trusted contacts, as well as he police, if needed. Another unique feature of the app is that it can record sounds, thus preserving crucial evidence for domestic violence incidents.

While the app was launched in July, it was only promoted on its newly created Facebook page and in closed women’s groups on Facebook, to make sure the testing stage went smoothly. Even with these limited efforts, it has been downloaded about 1000 times, and has responded to one significant domestic violence incident, which resulted in detention of the perpetrator. Sapari expects a new wave of downloads and even larger reach of the app after this TV appearance.
