GTUC Conducts Online Discussion on Essential Terms of Employment Contract and Covid-19

03 August 2020 GTUC Online Discussion

On July 31, Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC), under the USAID/PROLoG-funded project “Legal Aid for Protection of Workers Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic,” organized an online discussion on “Essential Terms of Employment Contract and Covid-19.” GTUC lawyers Tamar Surmava and Irakli Mkheidze hosted the event with Levan Gogitauri, PR specialist, moderating the discussion. The purpose of the event was to share information concerning employees’ labor rights during the pandemic.

The lawyers talked about the terms of employment contracts, dismissal from the workplace without prior notice, paid and unpaid leave, and overtime. Many employees from different sectors face similar problems regarding employment contracts, many do not have a permanent contract; have difficulties using their vacation; and work overtime without adequate compensation. They noted that, due to the pandemic, GTUC had an increased number of beneficiaries apply for consultations on various labor related issues. The lawyers also offered legal advice to people affected by the pandemic.
