Public Discussion on Women in the Military

10 December 2019 US military attaché in Georgia speaks about challenges facing women in the Military

On December 9 the USAID/PROLoG-supported Human Rights Chair at ILIA State University Law School organized a public discussion on Women in the Military Field. Speakers included US military attaché in Georgia, Colonel Stephanie Bagley and Tamar Karosanidze, Chief of Party for the USAID-funded program Advancing CSO Capacities and Engaging Society in Sustainability (ACESS), and a former Deputy Defense Minister of Georgia. A public discussion was moderated by ILIA State University Rector, Giga Zedania.

Panelists discussed challenges facing women in the military field, policies for career development opportunities for women in the security sector and how the state should fulfill its obligations under the UN Women, Peace and Security Resolution that calls for increased participation of women in decision making positions in the security sector and peace negotiations.

The event was organized in the framework of the annual 16-day activism campaign against gender-based violence.
