Georgian Team Participates in Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition

25 June 2019 Georgian team members together with coach, Zakaria Shvelidze

On June 13-15, the fourth Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition (HS MCC) was held in Hasselt, Belgium. A Georgian team has participated in the competition since its inception, and last year won the competition, while this year Georgian team member, Ana Jikia was awarded the title of Best Speaker.

The HS MCC is an initiative by five labor law academics, including Georgian professor Zakaria Shvelidze. The aim of the Competition is to improve the knowledge of employment and labor law at the European level. Twelve teams from the European Union, including Austria, Germany, Belgium, and France   participated in the competition, Georgia was the only team from outside the EU.

The competition was judged by renowned professors from different European universities, lawyers and judges from EU countries, as well as Dr. Jean Michel Servais, former president of the International Labor Organization, and Dr. Iris Haanappel-van der Burg, judge of the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam.

The next Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition will be held in Tbilisi, with active support from USAID/PROLoG.
