On May 29, Union Sapari, under the USAID/PROLoG-funded legal aid project “Comprehensive Approach to Violence against Women and Girls,” held a public discussion—"Men searching for solutions: let’s talk about gender based violence." The goal of the event was to trigger public discussion among men and start a series of discussions regarding gender based violence, masculinity and the social role of men in Georgia.

Guest speakers—sociologist and gender researcher, Giorgi Urchukhishvili and script-writer Giorgi Janelidze—discussed the reasons of violence against women (VAW) from men’s perspective. Giorgi Urchukhishvili talked about Gender-based violence, types of masculinity, especially complicit masculinity, and its relation to VAW; he also reviewed women’s property rights in general. Participants were actively involved in the discussion and talked about gender socialization, social roles, gender-based violence, etc.
