USAID/PROLoG Supports Annual Summer School in Human Rights

21 September 2018 WUSL Professor Craig Martin teaching at the Summer School

On September 9-13, the National Institute for Human Rights at Free University, in the framework of its USAID/PROLoG grant, conducted its annual Summer School for students. The Summer School was organized in partnership with the Constitutional Court of Georgia, and 30 students from five different Georgian universities participated in it. The topic of this year’s Summer School was a comparative perspective on the use of principle of proportionality in the equality jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court of Georgia. PROLoG U.S. resource partner Washburn University Law School’s Professor Craig Martin presented the U.S. and Canadian perspectives, while Georgian law professors and experts overviewed case law of the Constitutional Court, the practices of the Public Defender’s Office, and precedents of the European Court of Human Rights. The Summer School ended with a mock trial hearing where students put to practical use the knowledge they gained during the previous days.
