EMC Conducts Training For Media Representatives

03 August 2018 Speakers: Tamta Mikeladze - EMC Equality Program Director; Bishop Malkhaz Songhulashvili - Evangelic Baptist Church; Tariel Nakaidze - Chairperson of Union of Georgian Muslims; Bishop Rusudan Gotsiridze - Evangelic Baptist Church

On July 29-30, under the USAID/PROLoG legal aid grant “Improving human rights conditions for marginalized groups through strategic litigation,” the Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) organized training for 20 media representatives from print, television and internet news outlets. Together with guest speakers from different religious institutions and independent researches, discussions took place concerning the human rights conditions of non-dominant religious and ethnic groups living in Georgia. The participants examined the main challenges that exist in state policy in this regard based on cases from Kvemo Kartli, Pankisi Valley, and Achara.

The goal of the training was to shed light on the extant barriers to the participation of ethnic and religious minorities in public and political life in Georgia, as well as increasing public interest towards the rights-related conditions of these groups.
