Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) - Improving Access to Justice
Period/Duration: 05.25.2020-03.24.2021
Amount: $30,210
Project description: The project is aiming at improving access to justice in Georgia through mapping the major barriers in this regard. EMC will draft a methodological framework to analyze the structural and substantive factors that prevent individuals from bringing their cases to court. EMC will supplement the findings with a qualitative study of court users, as well as citizens who have had legitimate legal needs but have been unable to use justice system institutions. The research will focus on access to legal services, financial and geographical challenges, societal and cultural barriers, institutional and legislative limitations. EMC will then develop recommendations for the relevant state agencies and conduct advocacy work for improving access to justice.
